Mission Impossible

Mission Impossible: How a Community Tackles Pollution
A Talk by Iain Barker

Looe Harbour was dying. Poor bathing water threatened tourism and local livelihoods. But through the power of citizen science and community action, Looe’s bathing water has been transformed from poor to good!

Join Iain Barker, farm adviser with Cornwall Wildlife Trust, as he shares how farmers, cafés, hotels, South West Water, the Town Trust, councils, and local residents all played a part—fixing drains, installing grease traps, and making real, lasting improvements.

This talk is essential for anyone who cares about the health of our streams, rivers, and beaches. We’ll also explore how the story of Looe can inspire positive change for communities on the Lizard.
