Swift box and bat box workshop

Many hands make light work! Over Friday and Saturday 9th and 10th of February, about forty of us gathered in the beautiful Camel Barn at Rosuick Farm to learn more about swifts and bats and to share our knowledge and experience. Then, under the guidance of Justin and Sam we assembled the boxes which we hope will serve as homes for these wonderful creatures. Now we need to place the swift nest boxes before the swifts arrive in late April and May. Please join us if you would like to help us to do this - write to wildlifegroundswell@gmail.com. We shall be targeting places where there are swifts colonies already close by, so augmenting sites chosen by the swifts themselves. Let us know if you know of suitable places.

Thanks to sponsorship from the Cornwall National Landscape’s Monumental Improvement Project.

Swifts spend 3 months here nesting in the walls of some of our high buildings, like barns and churches, but also some houses. They produce an average of 2 offspring a year, before returning to the skies above Africa where they do not land but feed on aerial insects. Click on photo above to learn more swift facts.
