Caroline's previous careers were as a Land Agent for a national conservation charity and then in teaching. She is currently developing the regenerative and wildlife-friendly potential of her smallholding on the Lizard and is particularly interested in the links between healthy ecosystems, healthy soil and healthy humans. Caroline helps run Wildlife Groundswell's 'Any size landowners' group.
Sam Freegard
Sam worked as an NHS doctor for over forty years, including thirty as a general practitioner. Now retired, Sam particularly enjoys small-scale practical applications of nature recovery strategies, including the annual scything of his orchard meadow. He is involved in our ‘Swifts, swallows & Martins’ and the ‘Steam Testing‘ (Westcountry Rivers Trust Citizen Science Investigators and Riverfly Partnership) groups.
Maggie Freegard
Maggie is a founder member of Wildlife Groundswell, believing in the capacity of nature to regenerate if it is given a chance. Maggie coordinates Wildlife Groundswell from her home on the Lizard. She is particularly interested in land management and how it affects wildlife. She tries to maximise effective nature recovery through community activity, always looking out for opportunities to increase the scale of the effectiveness of our volunteers. Maggie’s professional career was as a medical general practitioner.
Julian Abel
Julian is interested in finding ways of supporting the 3 aims of Wildlife Groundswell – decreasing carbon emissions, increasing biodiversity all supported by the community on The Lizard. He is directly involved with the 'Any size landowners' group and ‘Eat The Lizard’, which aims to help farmers grow food for local consumption. His working life was as a palliative care physician.
Tanya Strike
With over 25 years of experience teaching yoga and meditation, Tanya brings a grounded presence, compassion and embodied awareness to all aspects of her work. She is trained in Authentic Relating leadership and facilitates Climate Café listening circles. She plays a key role in organising Connect to Nature events, which encourage people to deepen their relationship with the natural world. Tanya envisions a future where nature and love are at the centre of our lives and where transformation happens not in isolation, but in community. Her work is rooted in the belief that by supporting one another, we can deepen our connection to ourselves, to each other, and to the Earth.
